On Tuesday, students affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Mangalore University staged a demonstration in front of the university’s administrative office to express their discontent with the delayed announcement of degree results. Some students attempted to enter the hall where the syndicate meeting was taking place, but police intervention prevented their entry, leading to a verbal altercation between the students and law enforcement.
The protesting students highlighted the impact of the delay on their ability to apply for scholarships. Harshith Koyla, the ABVP-Mangaluru division convenor, asserted during the demonstration that the university’s alleged failure to provide timely mark sheets is causing hardship for degree and postgraduate students. He mentioned that students who enrolled after the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) are still awaiting their first-year results, despite being in their second year.
Koyla assured the gathered students that the results would be announced by January 25, 2023. The protest concluded after the university’s Registrar of Evaluation, P L Dharma, provided assurance that all results would be released before the specified date.
